Click start and choose a screen, a window, or a tab in the browser prompt. To test system audio, tick the share audio box in that same prompt.

Wrong monitor, scaled down resolution, missing system audio: better to find out here than three takes into a recording. Save a snapshot if you want proof of the setup.
Screen capture sends new frames only when something on screen changes, so a still desktop can legitimately read a few frames per second. Play a video or drag a window while watching the readout to see the true ceiling. Browsers also commonly cap capture at 30 fps unless the system is asked for more.
System audio needs the share audio checkbox ticked in the browser prompt, and support varies. Chrome and Edge capture tab audio everywhere but full system audio on Windows only. Mac browsers cannot capture system audio without extra software: that is a macOS restriction, not a bug in your setup.
Neither. The capture is rendered and measured inside this page and nothing leaves your machine. Nothing is written to disk unless you press the snapshot button, and closing the tab or clicking stop ends the capture completely.
Tab is safest for showing one web app: it cannot leak a notification from elsewhere and its audio capture is the most reliable. Window is right for a single application. Whole screen is for when you genuinely need to move between apps, and it captures everything, including notifications, so silence them first.
Whatever this readout says while sharing, which is usually the pixel size of the screen, window, or tab you picked. Note that on a high density display the browser may capture at the scaled resolution rather than full native pixels, which is exactly the kind of surprise this test exists to catch.
