Home/Compare/Loom alternative

A Loom alternative with no account and no upload.

Loom is built around a hosted library and an instant shareable link, which means signing up and sending your recording to their servers. Recording Studio skips both. You open a tab, record, and get a file.

Loom solved a real problem: recording a quick video and getting it in front of somebody is faster than writing three paragraphs, and the hosted link is what makes that work. For a lot of teams it is the right tool and it will stay the right tool.

The parts people go looking for an alternative over are usually the same two. You have to create an account, and your recording goes to their cloud. Both are inherent to the design, not oversights: without an account there is no library, and without an upload there is no link to share.

Recording Studio makes the opposite trade. No account, nothing uploaded, and you end up with a video file rather than a hosted page. One detail worth knowing if you are choosing on the free tiers: as of July 25, 2026, Loom's free Starter plan lists recordings at up to 720p, while Recording Studio's free tier records at 1080p.

When Loom is the better choice

If the point of the recording is to send it to somebody, Loom is better at that than a local recorder can be. Hosted links, a searchable library, transcription, viewer notifications, comments, reactions, and integrations with the tools your team already uses are the product, and none of them exist when the file stays on your laptop. Loom is also available on mobile, which this is not.

Recording Studio is the better fit when you do not want an account, when the recording is sensitive enough that a cloud upload is a problem, or when you want the raw file to edit yourself. It is a recorder, not a video platform, and it is not trying to become one.

Questions

Is there a free Loom alternative that does not need an account?

Yes. Recording Studio records your screen and camera in Chrome or Edge with no signup at all. The free tier records at 1080p for up to five minutes per recording and adds a small watermark. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on our side.

What is Loom's free plan limited to?

As of July 25, 2026, Loom's pricing page lists the free Starter plan as 25 videos, five minute screen recordings, and video quality up to 720p. Check their pricing page for current terms, since plans change.

Can I get a shareable link like Loom gives me?

Not directly, and that is the deliberate trade. You get a video file, which you can upload wherever you like, including to a service that generates a link. If a link within seconds is the thing you actually need, Loom is the better tool.

Does Recording Studio work on Windows?

Yes. It runs in Chrome or Edge, so it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS. There is nothing to install and no admin password needed, which helps on a managed work machine.
