A Tella alternative that keeps the file.

Tella uploads in the background as you record, which is what makes its instant sharing work. Recording Studio does the opposite: your screen and camera are composed and encoded on your own machine, and you end up with a file rather than a hosted page.

Tella is a polished product built around a specific idea: your video should be ready to share the moment you stop recording. Its own documentation describes uploading everything in the background while you record, which is exactly how it delivers that. If sharing speed is your bottleneck, that design is a real advantage.

It is also the thing some people need to avoid. If the recording contains customer data, internal tooling, or anything covered by an agreement, background upload to a third party is the problem rather than the feature. Recording Studio composes and encodes locally and gives you a file, which you can then put wherever your policy allows.

Note that tella.tv now redirects to tella.com, so both addresses reach the same product.

When Tella is the better choice

Tella does considerably more than record. Trimming, editing, backgrounds, a teleprompter, hosted sharing, and team features are all part of the product, and Recording Studio does not compete with any of that. If your workflow is record, tidy up, send a link, and you are comfortable with the video living in Tella's cloud, Tella is the better tool and it is not close.

Recording Studio is narrower on purpose. It records your screen and camera well, locally, with no account, and gives you a file. Choose it when local processing matters more than the surrounding workflow.

Questions

Does Tella upload my recording?

Yes. As of July 25, 2026, Tella's own site describes uploading everything in the background while you record, which is how the video is ready to edit or share as soon as you stop. That is a design decision in service of fast sharing, not an oversight.

Is tella.tv the same as tella.com?

Yes. tella.tv redirects to tella.com, so both point at the same product.

Do I need an account for Recording Studio?

No. The free tier needs no signup at all. Premium is unlocked with a license key rather than an account.

What do I get at the end of a recording?

A video file in your downloads folder. Free recordings are 1080p WebM with a small watermark. Premium adds 4K, unlimited length, MOV export for Final Cut and DaVinci Resolve, and removes the watermark.
