How it works

Step 1

Drop the video in

The browser decodes it locally and shows the first frame, with the true pixel size of your footage in the readout.

Step 2

Scrub, then step

Drag the slider to get near the moment, then use the frame step buttons to land on the exact one. The timecode shows where you are to the hundredth of a second.

Step 3

Save it as PNG or JPG

PNG is pixel perfect and bigger, ideal for thumbnails you will edit further. JPG is smaller and right for sharing as is.

Questions

What resolution is the saved image?

The full resolution of the video itself. A 1080p video gives you a 1920 by 1080 image, and 4K footage gives you a 3840 by 2160 image. It is a true frame export, not a screenshot of the player.

Should I save PNG or JPG?

PNG if you are going to edit the image afterwards, put text on it, or use it as a thumbnail source: it is lossless. JPG if you just want to share the moment and prefer a smaller file. For a YouTube thumbnail, start from PNG and export the final design under 2 MB.

How do I find the sharpest frame?

Scrub close, then step one frame at a time around the moment. Footage with motion has visibly blurrier and sharper frames right next to each other, and one step often makes the difference for a thumbnail.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes the file locally and the frame is captured on your own machine. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the only file created is the image you save.

Why did my file fail to load?

The browser has to be able to decode the video, and a few codecs are not supported everywhere. MP4, MOV, and WebM are safe nearly everywhere. If a file refuses to load, convert it to MP4 first with the converter tools here.
